Let's get to know each other

About ImproNation

ImproNation is an international, English-speaking improv theatre group founded in 2020. What started as a creative idea has grown into a thriving community of improv enthusiasts, dedicated to exploring and teaching the art of improvisational theatre.

Based in The Hague, with strong connections to nearby communities in Delft, Amsterdam, and Rotterdam, we offer regular shows, a variety of courses at all levels, and weekly meetup workshops. Whether you're trying out improv for the first time or continuing your journey, there's a place for you here.

At ImproNation, we believe that improv is a powerful way to embrace playfulness, build confidence, and collaborate with others. It’s an opportunity to learn more about yourself, connect with others, and most importantly—have fun. Take that first step, and we’ll be excited to help you discover the improviser within!

Meet Our People

At the heart of ImproNation are our talented instructors and cast members who bring their creativity, passion, and expertise to every class and performance. These are the faces you’ll see most often, but behind the scenes is a larger community of dedicated individuals, each contributing to the vibrant and evolving spirit of our group. Whether you’re joining us as a performer, a student, or a supporter, you’re part of something much bigger.

Gizem Erbas

Instructor, Cast, Board Member

Gizem Erbas, a.k.a. Giz, started her acting career when she was 6, just to wear the princess costume.

After years of doing scripted theatre, she discovered the magical, unscripted universe of improv in 2013. Since then, she lives every day like she is on stage, ready to “YES, AND” every suggestion.

You’ll find her illuminating the stage at any ImproNation shows, while spreading the joy of improv through courses and workshops. Her mission? To ensure that every soul in this universe experiences the sheer delight of hearty laughter.

David Kühling

Instructor, Cast, Board Member

David Kühling is a student, teacher, director, creator, and board member at ImproNation. He’s been there from the start—taking a class with Wang, joining a show a month later, and teaching six months after that.

His artistic journey began in childhood with painting, sculpting, and guitar. His true love for the stage ignited during a rehearsal for La Zapatera Prodigiosa, when his teacher told him to follow an imaginary butterfly across the stage.

He lives by the motto “curiosity is the last thing that dies” and “curiosity killed the cat,” always learning, constantly growing—with a flair for drama.

Wang Jia

Instructor, Cast, Board Member

Wang Jia is the founder of ImproNation and has been improvising since way back— yes, even before Zoom shows were a thing! He loves that magical moment when the team clicks and anything feels possible, including discovering new facial expressions he didn’t know he had.

Wang brings all kinds of stage energy, from spontaneous characters to stand-up punchlines, and he has even shown his skills on a TEDx stage.

Thom Roelofs

Instructor, Cast, Board Member

Thom Roelofs’ theatre experience dates back to his first time playing in the school musical at the age of 12, continuing to the stage classes, playing all the female roles in his high school, to finally discovering and working with Impronation in 2019.

After joining a special show on his birthday, he was hooked, and since then, Thom has performed, taught and worked with various Dutch and English groups throughout the Netherlands.

Switching between crazy game-like formats and emotional and personal stories on the stage. All to help spark some creativity and joy, and discover the delightful and playful inner child in all of us.

Urko Masse

Instructor, Cast

For Urko Masse, improv wasn’t just a hobby that started after pandemic restrictions lifted—it was a revelation.

His on-stage energy is no surprise; it’s fueled by his background teaching and performing Salsa, including leading his dance school, SalSaigon, in Vietnam.

Urko brings that same vibrant, physical storytelling to every improv scene, along with a wealth of experience in making learning fun for everyone.

Sara Hedayati

Instructor, Cast

Sara Hedayati stumbled into improv like one might find a hidden garden—by following curiosity. She joined ImproNation in 2022, drawn in by The Hague’s vibrant improv scene and never looked back.

As a devoted player, teacher, and host, Sara embraces the chaos, connection, and imagination of improv. She loves sharp wit, deep emotional presence, and infectious laughs.

Her mission? To turn emptiness into a story and remind people how alive they are. And to make sure no one ever forgets: even a spoon can have a heartbreak.

Tejas Khedekar

Instructor, Cast

Since 2018, Tejas Khedekar has been active in the improv scene of the Netherlands. A senior cast member at ImproNation, he recently began teaching the fundamentals of improvisation.

Influenced by international workshops, his teaching is rooted in the belief that everyone learns differently. He adapts to each participant’s style, creating a supportive, fun space—with lessons that reach beyond the stage.

Outside of improv, Tejas works full-time as a cost estimator and plays in the Rotterdam-based metalcore band Fosvor.

Thom Roelofs

Instructor, Cast

Loving a life on stage while suffering from social anxiety, Verena Ohms really is a curious creature.

Half the time, she’s confused about what’s going on. At other times, she identifies as a chipmunk, not least because she loves to stuff her cheeks with delicious food from around the world. Eating is her second biggest hobby, right after improv.

She also believes the world would be a brighter place if people stopped taking themselves so seriously. Therefore, she always tries to infuse a little humour into everything she does.

Emma Saiben

Instructor, Cast

Emma Sajben was known in kindergarten for “reading” from books, making up stories left and right. Play and theatre have stolen her heart from a young age, which led her to poetry recitals, school theatre productions, and amateur musical shows throughout most of her life.

Around 10 years ago, struggling with stress and burnout, improv reignited that spark she forgot she was missing.

It brings her joy to connect with her own and others’ inner children, to spread the feeling of freedom through play, and to explore this wild, magical human experience through the art of improv.

Mali Karakaya

Instructor, Cast

For Mali Karakaya, improv is where curiosity runs wild and chaos makes sense. He’s drawn to the in-between moments—the pause before a bold choice, the shift when things take an absurd turn. On stage, he blends the sincere with the ridiculous, often chasing a thread of emotion through a mess of laughter.

He thrives when the group mind kicks in—when everyone’s tuned in, creating something none could alone, intrigued by characters that reveal more than they mean to, he’s drawn to the raw, the ridiculous, and the quietly existential.

Off stage, that same curiosity feeds his love for unexpected questions, shifting perspective, and the strange logic behind how we live and relate.
