These are our communities’ values and things we strive for as an organization with our participants.
Open Attitude
Improv is about accepting ourselves and others. As such, we find it essential that our courses foster an environment of trust, honesty, and acceptance.
Authenticity
Improv is about creating unique scenarios that simultaneously allow us to bring parts of ourselves to the sessions. We invite you to be you, regardless of culture, ethnicity, gender, religious beliefs, or sexual orientation.
Togetherness
For us, improv is more fun when you share the spotlight and “yes, and” each other. As such, we ask you to be open to others and share the stage.
Commitment
We ask you to commit to the course both on and off the stage. Be on time, and let us know when you can’t make it or if you’ll be late. If anything comes up, we’re always happy to work together to find a solution and offer support when needed.
Safety
Improv should always be a safe and supportive space for everyone. We ask that you respect personal boundaries, be mindful of others’ comfort levels, and communicate openly. If at any time you feel uncomfortable or uncertain, please let us know, and we will work together to ensure everyone feels safe and supported.
Language – English
We value our international community, which includes people from all over the world. All our events are held in English.
ImproNation’s mission is to promote improvisational theatre in The Hague in all its aspects.
We do this by rehearsing and performing with our core group of players and organizing courses and workshops. We take this mission seriously and with integrity and professionalism. We aim to be a respectful, open, safe, and accessible community for all our players, directors, and students, regardless of gender, sexual orientation, physical disabilities, body type, or background. We do not tolerate any misconduct.
* Improvise with joy, love, and respect for each other.
* Do not compete with each other; work together.
* Pay attention to your instructor or director and those performing.
* Behave respectfully towards others: sexist, racist, or exclusionary behaviour is unacceptable.
* Follow the safety rules of the location where you are working.
* Do not use drugs while attending or teaching classes or during performances.
* Be on time for classes and rehearsals.
* Set your mobile devices to silent.
* Do not take photos or videos of other participants without their explicit consent.
* Respect each other’s physical and psychological boundaries, both on and off stage.
* Keep it physically safe. Do not create risks for yourself or others.
If, in a scene, someone’s physical or emotional boundaries are (threatening to be) crossed, the scene can be stopped by the player or instructor.
Concerns should—if possible—be shared with the group first so that everyone can learn from them. Of course, you can always approach the instructor or our designated counsellor with questions, concerns, or complaints.
Breaking this code of conduct can result in one of the following actions (not exhaustive): warnings, apologies, probation, suspension, exclusion, or even immediate removal from the location. In the case of courses, all decisions regarding this matter are made by the instructor and the counsellor.
In the case of our own company, decisions are made by the board of directors. If we witness criminal acts, they will always be reported to the police—unless vetoed by the potential victim.
